Intellectuals in India, like news consumers, now have a less-than-healthy cynicism of the media, much of it the media’s fault of course, but also the result of a sustained slander campaign by partisans.
How heartwarming, therefore, to see this plaque at the museum of the Jnanpith Award-winning Kannada poet, writer and academic, Dr K.V. Puttappa, in his home-village, Kuppalli, in the western ghats.
Loosely translated from the original Kannada, it reads:
“The attributes of a good home are a good newspaper and a few good books.”
That’s true. Can you please repeat the exact words in kannada? Thanksu.
