How a tabloid reporter broke the Dutt story

Indian actor Sanjay Dutt has been sentenced to six years in jail in the 1993 Bombay blasts’ case. The actor’s possession of an AK-57 was first broken by Baljeet Parmar, then a reporter with The Daily. In today’s DNA, Parmar describes how he stumbled upon the story and how he confirmed the star’s name after several days, all the time wondering if somebody else would upstage him.

“Late in the evening, I called Y.C. Pawar, who was heading the investigation team. I made casual enquiries about the progress of the case and Pawar dropped a bombshell. “Apke MP ke bete ka naam aa raha hai,” he said, refusing to divulge more.
