If you pay peanuts, you will only get monkeys

How much do American journalism and mass communication teachers—lecturers, professors, etc—make per annum? The records of Arizona State University have been made public, and the numbers are truly astounding. Dean Christopher Callahan takes home $191,650 every year, Prof Stephen Keith Doig $ 114,501.

Multiply by 40 to get a snapshot of why journalism education in India is light years away from attracting the best and the brightest.

You should consider the differences in the costs of living.

Plus, the University Grants Commission scales — with add-ons such as DA/TA — are fair given the productivity of Indian college professors.

What’s really lacking in many Indian journalism programs is highly-published and highly-cited professors, as well as real world professionals (adjuncts).

By the way, salaries are public records at all public universities, not just at Arizona State.

how true! “If you pay peanuts, you will only get monkeys”its indeed a fact. only the market leaders have the ability and profiteering spirits to part good salaries to its staff.the average and dull are not paying that well, that’s the reason they lag behind attracting skilled talent.
