Is this the golden age of the student journalist?

Journalism has been around for a few hundred years, serviced mostly by those who didn’t have any other skill or couldn’t find any other job.  There were the passionate few, of course, whom jumped into the trade by intent. But most of the rest were untrained, and many learnt their skills on the job.

Contrast this with today. Journalism schools here, there, everywhere. Technology at your fingertips. Advice and guidance on the other side of your modem. Millions of avenues to write,  publish, comment, edit, shoot pictures.  As you look at How to Make Internet TV, you wonder if this is the golden age of the student journalist?

Then again, you also wonder if all this is really making journalism any better. Or just adding to the clamour?
